Ethnic views on Burmese junta attempting a fresh election News - IMNA Written by Loa Htaw Friday, 30 March 2007 Central Committee members of the New Mon State Party (NMSP 信用卡代償) today convened a meeting on the current political situation in Burma and the ensuing election by the Burmese military junta, said Col Kao Rot, Central Committee member. The NMSP meeting will discuss whether the party should involve itself in the ele 代償ctions. If they do not they will discuss preparations on their future course of action. Col Kao Rot said "In my view, the party should not involve itself in the election process unless we recognize the government constitution". "According to the junta& 建築設計#39;s draft constitution, if the NMSP decides to participate in the election, the Mon National Liberation Army (MNLA) automatically has to go under the control of the military government with no guarantee that the Burmese military will not resort to a coup in the country again, 小額信貸" he added. According to the BBC Burmese Service, the Burmese military regime has asked the NMSP to participate in the elections which could be held in 2008. Some ethnic cease-fire groups will participate in the election. Ethnic alliance groups believe that the government will conduct fresh 辦公室出租elections even if the opposition or ethnic groups are not involved in the election. However, two of the strongest ethnic armed groups the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) have made it abundantly clear that they would not participate in the forthcoming elections by the 東森房屋junta if it falls back upon the constitution drafted at the National Convention (NC). "We do not recognize the current fake draft constitution by the junta. Another ethnic leader, KNPP secretary general Raymond Htoo said "Our party only focuses on people's need. We do not focus either on ceasefire or on fighting. Both allies the KNU and KNPP have tried to a reach ceasefire with the junta many times. But they claim the junta does not respect the agreement. Only promises have been discussed.
